BIMvoice

Welcome to BIMvoice, the podcast that provides a platform for Building Information Modeling (BIM) professionals to share their perspectives and insights on the industry. In this podcast, we cover a wide range of topics related to BIM, including its applications in architecture, engineering, and construction, as well as the latest trends and challenges facing the industry. One of the key topics we focus on is OpenBIM, a platform-independent approach to BIM that enables seamless collaboration and data exchange among different stakeholders. We believe that OpenBIM is revolutionizing the AEC industry and has the potential to transform the way we design, construct, and operate buildings. Through our conversations with experts in the field, including architects, engineers, and software developers, we explore the benefits of using OpenBIM, including interoperability, flexibility, and data exchange. We also discuss the challenges of implementing OpenBIM and how organizations can overcome them. Our guests share their personal experiences with OpenBIM tools like IFC, BCF, IDS, and provide insights on how OpenBIM is improving collaboration among different disciplines, increasing efficiency, and reducing errors and rework. We also discuss the latest developments in OpenBIM technology and how it is being used in real-world projects. Whether you’re an architect, engineer, contractor, or software developer, BIMvoice provides you with valuable insights and practical tips to help you get the most out of BIM and OpenBIM. So, join us for our next episode and let’s explore the exciting world of BIM together!

Episode 7 - Robbin Hellström

Thursday Jun 25, 2020

Get ready to rock your BIM world while listening to this episode! Robbin sees things differently than many in our industry. Many of you will feel challenged your beliefs about BIM and the AEC industry, so get your seatbelt on and enjoy this!
Robbin Hellström is an architect and BIM-philosopher at 3D Interactive STHLM AB in Sweden.
"BIM is something we always had. We had it for thousands of years. The only thing that is new within BIM as a concept is because of the digital technique, the tools are different. That’s the concept I want to change, to make the business understand that we don’t need to talk about BIM as something new but as something that’s we have always done, so we can start talking about what the tools actually are. If you really want BIM to work for you, stop talking BIM, understand BIM is already what you do." Robbin Hellström

Episode 6 - Eirik Aasbakk

Thursday Jun 18, 2020

Thursday Jun 18, 2020

Eirik talks about how he’s helping the project owners to adopt BIM on their projects within the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (Statens Vegvesen). Lately, more of the Project Owners have started to require the information to be presented in dashboards, which is easy to do when you have BIM 3d-models. In a recent project, to engage the neighbors and the politicians they used ARCGIS online instead of the traditional way with documents and drawings that nobody reads. We also talk about using drones, Geo Radar, and Machine Learning to map the bedrock for roads. VDC, Modell Maturity Index (MMI), and many other interesting things.
Eirik is a BIM-manager in the Division of Bigger Projects in Statens Vegvesen (Norwegian Public Road Administration). He is helping the various Project Owners to adopt and use BIM as much as possible.
"For me, BIM is many things but the most important I think is structured information, and 3d geometry is one part of the information which lies in BIM objects. If you get this established, just have a lot of information in the geometry then we have a lot of possibilities. " Eirik Aasbakk

Episode 5 - Øyvind Kjøllesdal

Thursday Jun 11, 2020

Thursday Jun 11, 2020

Øyvind talks about the importance of working together as active parts involved in the BIM process, scanning for quality assurance, RPAs, robots, drones, why he thinks Norway is a frontrunner in the digital transformation in the Construction Industry, BIM-kiosks, building without drawings, IPD (integrated project delivery) contracts and many other interesting things.
Øyvind is a Business Developer - Innovation and Digital Construction at AF Gruppen which is a leading contracting and industrial group.
"Virtual Design in Construction is about combining people and technology to fulfill the main goals of the projects and to constantly monitor how well your team is doing. BIM is one of the main pillars and an enabler of achieving a process of the Virtual Design in Construction where BIM is the central hub containing the project information and also an enabler for communication and mutual understanding of the product which the team is creating and working with."  Øyvind Kjøllesdal

Episode 3 - Gavin Crump

Thursday Jun 11, 2020

Thursday Jun 11, 2020

Gavin talks about scripting with Dynamo, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Construction, challenges in BIM adoption, and much more.
Having worked in many architectural firms over the past 10 years as a BIM Manager, Gavin opened his BIM Consulting firm, BIM Guru at the start of 2020. Launching off the back of his YouTube efforts at the Aussie BIM Guru channel, his focus has shifted towards educating all levels of AEC professionals about software-based workflows, computational design, and how they can navigate the industry from a BIM perspective.
"Usually I just turn the word around and I just say: modelling to generate information so they can get it out and build it. I like to look at it as a process of the model being a mechanism, information being what we get out of the mechanism and building being the process that the data supports." Gavin Crump
